Re: Vampire escape – Police raid Prison, recover 264 mobile phones

The attention of the Imo state Police Command has been drawn to the newspaper publication on page 40 of 31st January, 2017 edition of the Vanguard captioned “Vampire Escape – Police Raid Prisons, Recover 264 Mobile Phones” purportedly written by Emeka Mamah, Omeiza Ajayi and Chinedu Adonu. In the said publication, the writers averred that as security agencies trade words over the sensational escape of the alleged dreaded criminal Chibuzor Henry alias Vampire, the State Police Command weekend raided the Owerri Prisons and recovered mobile sets from the prison inmates.

The State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that no such raid was carried out by the Imo State Police Command at the Owerri Prisons. The Police Command have been working in tandem with the Owerri Prisons authorities to ensure the re-arrest of the fleeing suspects. It is pertinent to let the general public know that full investigation is being carried out to detect and arrest those who perpetrated the escape of the criminals and to ascertain whether or not there was internal connivance with those in-charge of the fleeing suspects.

The Police Command urge the general public to regard the publication as false and misleading information as the command hereby commends members of the press who painstakingly verify incidents before publication.
