The euphoria in the camp of Governor Rochas Okorocha on the coming new leadership in the ruling party may not last following the disclosure by the former Edo State governor that party supremacy would be the order in his tenure.
The incoming National Chairman of the All Progressives congress(APC) disclosed his avowed love for party supremacy when he hosted the APC young stakeholders on Wednesday in Abuja ahead june 23 national convention.
The former governor of Edo state maintained that it is the duty of Political Parties, particularly a ruling party to have policies on economy, social policies and policies that would define how the society is organized and managed.
Oshimhole insists that his entrance would herald an insistence that the President, Governors and other elected officers to follow party dictates.
“My hope is that, if by the special grace of God I become the APC National Chairman, we will need to be very clear about all these and other issues.
“Anyone elected on our platform, including the President will be expected to conduct government and governance in a way that promotes the core values of progressive governance,” Oshimhole quipped.
The former labour leader insists that the whole idea of seeking election on a party’s platform is to share binding ideas and to positively impact on people’s well being but, regretted the absence of debate on policy choices..
“To me, this is what a political party should represent. It is not only meeting during elections, but meeting from time to time to discuss policy options,” he said.
He promised to subject everyone to the dictates of the party’s Constitution when he comes on board.
“We will remain faithful to the manifesto of the party on the basis of which we were elected by the Nigerian people.
“I believe that everything considered, we are still the favourite party, but we must not take the support of the people for granted.
“My task is to be able to assist government at all levels to work in a way that will reflect the core values of the APC.” Said Oshimhole.
Meanwhile, the last challenger to Oshimhole’s drive to the seat of APC National Chairmanship has just step down paving way for him coasting to victory come Saturday national convention of the ruling party as unopposed.
