The fear of loosing the guber ticket by preffered candidates of states’ helmsmen may have driven the All Progressives Congress(APC) State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party into adopting indirect primaries in selecting candidates for election across the states.
The decision to adopt indirect primaries in Imo state like those of Kaduna,Nasarawa,Kogi,Kebbi,Ogun and Ondo was reached by the State Executive Committee in a meeting held thursday at the Imo International Conference Centre,Owerri and chaired by the state chairman,Mr Daniel Nwafor
The meeting which had in attendance all the the State Working Committee,Local government Party officers, the recently elected local council Chairmen,Speaker,Rt.Hon Acho Ihim who represented Governor Rochas Okorocha, and Uche Nwosu, Chief of staff to the Imo state governor and his(Governor’s) preferred candidate.
According to the State Chairman,Nwafor, the position is in conformity with the constitution of the party in the conduct of primary election.
Meanwhile, some political observers were united in the opinion that the fear of some governors across from being upstaged by the opponent may have forced the SECs in some states into the choice of indirect primary as against the earlier decision of the National Executive Committee(NEC) to use direct primary in selection of flag bearers.
The states of Lagos,Niger and Kano have decided to go with the national body in the use of direct primary
