The signing by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday of an Executive Order on the preservation of suspicious assets connected with corruption has sent shivers down the spine of Politicians and their business fronts.

The Presiden signed the order inside the council chamber of the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The coming into effect the executive order would see assets of nationals seized over inability to disclose rightly the source of their acquisition.

The President expressed uneasiness that assets that were seized earlier owing to it’s sources of acquisition as illegal were later handed over to the culprits and maintained that the nation must take steps to discourage corruption irrespective of person(s) involved.

Mr Buhari had on Wednesday while hosting the President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, said as a military Head of State, he seized “corruptly acquired” assets from politicians. He said most were returned to the owners when he was toppled.

He said in his latest fight against corruption, all assets confirmed to be proceeds of corruption will be seized and sold off and the proceeds returned to the national treasury.
