The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not reconstituted the party’s Board of trustee making it difficult for the likes of ex-governor Achike udenwa to function in the office.
This was disclosed by chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), Walid Jibrin, in a statement sent out stating that the opposition party is never in a hurry to carry out a reconstitution of her BOT, and would do same as soon as the party meets the requirement in it’s amended constitution.
You may recall that the PDP, in its December 9, 2017 national convention, amended its constitution.
Some of the clauses amended were Sections 8 and 50 to ease the process of rejoining the party by former members who left the party for one reason or the other.
This is to reduce the minimum period of membership by returnees and new members before they could stand for election on the party’s platform.
Sections 29, 30, 31, 35 and 45 were also amended to provide for two deputy national chairmen while making the six national vice chairmen of the party, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Section 21 was amended to pave way for the National Vice Chairmen to become members of the BOT.
Mr Jibrin said the process of adopting the amendment which empowered every state and the FCT to legitimately have one person representing them and five members from each of the six zones in the BOT was about to be concluded.
“I am working very hard with the state chairmen and our six national vice chairmen in order to bring forth very able, responsible, experienced and respected members into the BOT.
“Once the exercise is concluded, the new BOT members and already existing members will now be inaugurated.”
Mr Jibrin explained there was no need to rush without successfully concluding the exercise that would propel new members of the BOT who shall be the conscience of the party.
“Bringing in new members with high knowledge of the party, well experienced, able and men and women of high integrity stocked with honour and integrity should never be done in a hurry. Please bear with me, we are unlike other parties without BOT.
The BOT chairman, thanking leaders of the party, said the BOT is ready to stand against any plot to frame PDP leaders, be it governors, past ministers, past governors and all members.
“Please keep the umbrella and our slogan, Power to the People, very intact,” he added while congratulating the national chairman of the party “for working hard towards making the party stable.”
