The recent recruitment organized by the Nigeria Police Force may have come and gone following the release of the list of candidates that emerged from the screening.
A close look at the list as released showed that Imo State got 181 indigenes as successful with majority of the recruits coming from the North West states of Nigeria
You may recall that the President of Nigeria,Muhammudu Buhari gave orders for the recruitment of 6000 men and women into the force as a means to shoring up the dwindling manpower.
The recruitment as it stands across the states are: Kano,308;Katsina,238;Oyo,225;Akwa Ibom,194;Borno and Jigawa got 189 each.
Abia has 114, Adamawa 140, Anambra 146, Bauchi 133,Bayelsa 54, Benue 157, Cross River 122, Delta 166, Ebonyi 91, Edo 125,Ekiti 84, Enugu 119, Gombe 75,Imo 181, Kaduna 161, Kebbi 144, Kogi 140, Kwara 110, Lagos 136 and Niger 169.
Others are Ogun 140, Ondo had 125, Osun 211, Plateau 116, Rivers 138, Sokoto 161, Taraba 112, Yobe 110 and Zamfara 99.
The states with the lowest numbers of candidates invited for medical screening are the FCT with 42, Bayelsa 54, Gombe75 and Ekiti with 84.
The number as shortlisted showed that the North West, got the highest with a total of 1,201 and followed by South-west with 921 candidates, North central is 823,South- South got 799,North-east is 759 while south-east got the least 651 candidates.
Meanwhile,the Commission has said that 5,253 candidates were shortlisted from the 774 local government areas as having passed the screening exercise as conducted and now undergoing medical checks but, opinion analyst are wondering how the police intends to make up the remaining in the 6000 approved by the President including those that may not meet up the medical demands.
They are now calling on the Police to follow the federal character principles as enshrined to balance the recruitment across the LGs and states.
