HARD TIMES AWAIT DESTITUTES AS IMO STATE GOVERNMENT SACKS THEM FROM THE STREETS

The threats by Imo State government to cleanse the streets of Owerri and the rest of the State from the growing spate of destitute roaming the streets became real recently as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,Mrs Nma Onyechere, and her team in a commando style swooped on the group in different streets of Owerri taking them off the street.

The State Commissioner had while talking to the Press insisted that Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Rescue Misssion Programme is total and demands that the destitute are taking off the streets for proper reformation as they have not gone beyond redemption and called for support of all indigenes of the State. She stated that the group remains our brothers and sisters who should be supported and with the existence of an Imo State Rehabilitation Centre in Ngor-Okpala, they would be better taken care off.

Commenting on the State government initiative, Mr Alfred Uzor maintained that moving off the streets reduces the danger of their being knocked down by moving vehicles and helps to create a beautiful State especially with Imo State desiring to be a tourist destination.
