The situation in Imo state at present has been described by a former governor,Achike Udenwa as a “war raveged state” that needs collective effort towards her rebuilding processes.
The ex-governor stated this on Tuesday in Owerri at the inauguration of a committee put in place by the Governor-elect,Rt.Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, to organise the May 29 hand-over ceremony in the state.
Udenwa charged the committee members to plan a seamless ceremony that would herald the entrance of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) once more in the Eastern heartland and urged the governor-elect to brace up towards practicalising the PDP manifesto upon swearing-in.
Speaking also, Ex-Gov Ikedi Ohakim, while expressing his readiness to add value to the incoming state government enjoined persons in court to withdraw their suits against the Governor-elect,Emeka Ihedioha and join in rebuilding the state from its collapsed state.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion Innocent Nwoga,ex-Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and pioneer PDP state Chairman had described the last 8years of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration in Imo state as the greatest tragedy orchestrated by Political adventurers whose take was on sending the people into political exile. He alluded to tremendous damaged done to the state and insisted that the incoming administration must kick start a coordinated rebuilding process while urging the people to be patient.
In his address,Emeka Ihedioha assured that his victory at the poll marks the liberation of the state from maladministration,nepotism and abuses. He maintained that he is in a hurry to rebuild and recover the state.
According to the governor-elect”Imo will rise again” and due process will be followed in carrying out government businesses and implored the committee members to rededicate themselves to service of the state and the people.
In his acceptance speech,the Chairman of the Inauguration and Hand-over committee, Bar Chris Okewulonu while promising on a seamless ceremony,warned against reckless appointment and employment undertaken by the out-going Rescue Mission administration of Governor Rochas okorocha.
Also,Okewulonu pleaded with those in court against the incoming state government to see the rebuilding of Imo as most important and withdraw their suit.
On his own, a member of the committee and PDP candidate for Orsu state constituency in the just concluded general election,Engr Obioha Ozodinobi, commended the governor-elect for realising the enormity of damage done in the state and the need to galvanise the support of critical stakeholders towards rebuilding the state. He enjoined him to moblise more of Imo state human and capital resources towards coordinated development while maintaining that the PDP remains the most organize party to realize the dreams of the state.Ozodinobi appeals to Imo indigenes to be patient with the incoming administration and where necessary reach the governor-elect for an interface targeted at achieving overall development.
Equally, Engr Iyke Okeoma,deputy Director –General,Imo Liberation Movement,a support group that has been at the fore front of Rt.Hon.Ihedioha’s governorship campaign applauded the various initiative of the governor-elect in attracting Imo indigenes both at home and diaspora to rebuild the state. According to him, the Imo Liberation Movement is populated by roboust minds whose readiness to continue with their support were never in doubt.
