It was celebration among supporters of 5 law makers of Imo state House of Assembly earlier suspended by their colleagues as an Owerri high court in Imo State on Monday declared the suspension handed down to them as null and void.
The presiding justice, Goddy Anunihu, declares the processes that led to the indefinite suspension of the five lawmakers as “putting the horse before the cart” awarded N8m as cost against the three defendants.
The defendants in the suit instituted by the embattled lawmakers are the Imo State House of Assembly, the Speaker, Acho Ihim, and the Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha.
The embattled lawmakers are Nkenna Nzeruo(Oru East)Uche Oguwuike(Ikeduru) Chiiji Collins,(Isiala Mbano) Israel Nnataraoye,(Mbaitolu) and Donatus Onuigwe,(Oru-West).
You may recall the lawmakers were suspended in July by their colleagues in what was described as “Unparliamentary Conduct” by the Speaker,Acho Ihim.
Though some observers had alleged that the suspension was part of the build up to the earlier impeachment handed down to the state Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere and which was later nullified by the Court.
The presiding justice who tongue-lashed the legislature for acting against the law, faulted the setting up of a team to investigate the allegations against the now reinstated lawmakers.
Anunihu said based on the evidence before him, the panel was set up even before the “purported indefinite suspension.”
A cross section of Imo indigenes have come out to applaud the judgement as according to them, the judiciary has once more shown that the hope of the oppressed.
The Acho Ihim led House of Assembly is yet to respond on the judgement as at time of this publication.
