The Political career and governorship bid of imo state deputy governor,Prince Eze madumere ahead 2019 was temporarily nailed Monday july 30,2018 as the state House of Assembly led Speaker,Acho Ihim impeached him over alleged misconduct.
The Law makers who hurriedly carried out the impeachment processes despite a restraining order obtained by the embattled then deputy governor from an Owerri high Court 8 presided over by Justice iheaka on Monday caused an immediate clearance of the governor’s nominee,Calistus Ekenze who incindentally is the state’s head of service.
In his order, the learned Justice Iheaka adjourned the matter before him to August 13 for the parties involved owing to the prayer of the the Mbieri-born then deputy governor that he was never given fair hearing by the law makers and the Investigative panel earlier set by the state Chief Judge,Justice nnadi.
Meanwhile, the legislators in a motion moved by the majority leader and member representing Owerri Municipal,Luggard Osuji and support by the Law maker representing Owerri-West,Victor Ikonne and after having the endorsement of 19 law makers out of the 27 members impeached the deputy governor.
Moreso, the Law makers immediately read out, considered and approved the nomination of the state Head of Service,Mr Calistus Ekenze,by the Governor,Rochas okorocha as replacement.
The new deputy governor,Ekenze, who also is from Ubomiri in the same Mbaitolu Local Governor Area with the impeached Eze Madumere would soon be sworn-in by the governor of imo state to serve the remaining 10 months of the Rescue mission administration.
Indeed, numerous in the state have come to either criticize or applaud the position of Governor Okorocha over the impeachment considering that he had earlier in the life of his administration removed his then deputy governor,Jude Agbaso.
A pointer to the new role of then head of service was played out few months back when the stae governor appointed the then head of service to lead a committee saddled with the development of the local government area while promising to release a seed fund of one billion. Though, none is sure if the said fund was eventually released to the committee headed by Ekenze for the purpose.
