…calls on the constituents to rise against the suspension
The recent sanction handed over to four legislators of Imo state House of Assembly by the Speaker,Acho Ihim continues to receive knocks from Imolites with the latest being a governorship aspirant under the barnner of All Progressives grand Alliance(APGA),Bar Uche Onyeagocha.
The Obinze,Owerri-west born Politician in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary,Mr Macdonald Enwere, declares the suspension as height of illegality and legislative recklessness that must not be allowed to stand.
He alleged that the Imo state governor is the mastermind of the suspension with the target being the impeachment of deputy governor,Prince Eze Madumere and called on the constituents of the four suspended law makers to rise and challenge the position..
He said:“We also consider such masterminded suspension as another display of Governor Okorocha's despotic predisposition and extension of his infamous desperation of imposing his son-inlaw as the next Governor of the state. We know that when a masquerade dances on the roof top of a building without missing its steps, the man behind the mask cannot but be a carpenter.”
“It is most unfortunate that the state Assembly which suppose to be the effective prototype and hub of functional democratic structure has been turned into a boulevard for political tyros and advancement of avaricious political interest of one man.
“ Also, state Assembly which suppose to be the catalyst for real positive change that symbolizes the sovereignty of the people has indeed become a cancerous tumor begging to be operated. Members of the state Assembly which suppose to be the boldest brand of our democracy have descended so low by allowing themselves to be used by Governor Okorocha to threaten the peace of our politics and to also cause disharmony in the state's political landscape”.
“The recent action of the state House is nothing but a hollow drama which has left a very big question mark on the integrity of the state legislature and at the same time turned the state legislature into an object of caricature”.
“The only offence committed by these members was their refusal to endorse the governorship aspiration of Governor Okorocha's son-in-law and their refusal to support the impeachment plot of the state's Deputy Governor. We cannot continue to condone Governor Okorocha's idiosyncratic and dictatorial tendencies”.Onyeagocha concludes in the statement.
You may recall the state House of Assembly presided over by Acho Ihim on Wednesday during her sitting following her return the ruling party’s national convention held in Abuja suspended four law makers, : Hon. Ifeanyi Nnataronye of Mbaitoli state constituency, Hon Uche Oguwike of Ikeduru state constituency, Hon. Collins Chiji of Isiala Mbano state constituency and Hon Ikenna Nzeruo of Oru East state constituency over what he termed “unparliamentarily conduct”
