…Udenwa warns against wounding aspirants by party men/women
The fund raising activity organized by the Peoples democratic Party(PDP),Imo state chapter on Sunday at the Party secretariat along Owerri-Okigwe road was disrupted following the heavy downpour.
The rain which started shortly after the State Chairman and the secretary spoke on the programmes and plans of the party ahead 2019 general elections saw very few Party stalwart announce donations to the party and leave while some left the venue without making their donations.
A source within the party hinted on the effort made to avert the rain including contracting a rain-maker to forestall such situation with some officials threatenening for a pound of flesh including getting a refund of payment from the man said to have been kept at the back of the party secretariat to run his operation.
The State Chairman,Bar Charles Ezekwem, in his remarks said that the stakeholders meeting and fund raising was to brief party faithful on their activities ahead the 2019 elections and more, show that the party is united in her drive to take over Imo State government house from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Also, he commended the aspirants for their recognition that Party interest comes ahead by attending declarations of ‘supposed’ opponents and warned against hate speeches targeted at de-marketing aspirants and the PDP including acts of insubordinations among some youth leaders and women leaders in convening meetings with aspirants without express approval of Party Chairmen at the ward or local government area.
Ezekwem hinted the participants that the PDP is in dire stress financially and needs funds to procure party cards from her national secretariat for onward distribution to members before the State level primaries.
Further, the state secretary,Mr Ray Emeana, informs the stakeholders on the training workshop held for ward/local government party officials, inauguration of groups within the party so far undertaken, the planned constitution of various committees and the coming statewide football competition to hold in the 27 local government chapters of the party.
In his brief remark, the former governor of Imo state and Board of Trustee member, Acike Udenwa, enjoined the party members to avoid wounding the aspirants before the primaries through unnecessary demands. This practice according to him has worked against the party’s interest while opening ways for the opponents, and called for more concerted efforts realising the present PDP in Imo state is a revival of the grassroot based system that saw the party’s victory in the past.
Meanwhile, a mild drama occurred at the venue as the senator representing Owerri zone in the nation’s senate chambers, Samuel (Samdaddy) Anyanwu walked into the venue making way to the high-table shaking hands and embracing persons seated but, snubs a fellow governorship aspirant, Bar Chukwuma Ekomaru,SAN, despite him(Ekomaru) raising his hand to greet the senator.
Some persons who witnessed the show of shame suggested that the display may have been occasioned by the noticeable cracks in the Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s political family where both seem to have cut their teeth from, and with the recent formal declarations by Mbaitolu-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria where their Principal(Iwuanyanwu) who earlier threw his support for the incumbent senator said that all the aspirants are his children and none is preferred ahead the other.
Indeed, effort made to get the reaction of Bar Ekomaru,SAN, on the situation was not possible as the dignitaries hurriedly left the venue due to the heavy downpour.
