The incumbent Chairman of the Imo State Traditional Rulers Council,His Royal Majesty,Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri,Ezeimo, who has just been re-elected for a second tenure attributes his emergence to commitment, honesty and integrity in leading the council.
The traditional ruler who defeated the duo of His Royal Highness,(HRH)Eze Chidume Okoro andHRH, Eze Oliver Ohanwe to emerge victorious states that the over six hundred traditional rulers in Imo State were at home with him and his purposeful leadership.
According to Ezeimo, the last five years have seen innovations and changes in the council as it runs a parliamentary system towards addressing issues connected to growth of traditional institution in the state and Igbo society, and a good number of structures erected housing the Ezeimo’s residence and other offices for smooth running of the Council.
The Obi of Orodo who attributes his rise in the nation having been nominated recently to represent the South-East zone in coordinating the coming traditional rulers National Conference commended the Ezes for their confidence in him.Also, he promised to lead with the fear of God towards raising the position of the traditional institution in the state and beyond.
On the use of delegates for the election,the newly elected Ezeimo states that every society fashions out what is best for her and in this instance,each local government area produced three(3) delegates bringing to a total of 81 delegates and out of which he secured 59 votes to beat his opponents-Eze Chidume Okoro-19 and Eze Oliver Ohanwe-3 votes.
The Electoral Officer,Rev.fr Jerome Okonkwo also returned HRH,Eze Chijioke Okwara,Eshi of Nkwere as Deputy Chairman having secured 40 votes ahead Eze Emmanuel Okeke who got 17 votes,Eze Igwilo and Eze Dr.Mike Ebighi.
Meanwhile,Eze Ohiri has extended his hands of fellowship to co-contestants in the various positions assuring of his commitment to work with them towards building a roboust institution.
Inaddition, he commended the State governor, His Excellency Rochas Okorocha for his support to the traditional institution in Imo State.
Speaking to the Press after the election,HRH,Eze Dr. Mike Ebighi,Amara of Okwuamaraihe states that the Ezes have spoken, and it is never a do or die contest as any loser today could win another time. He congratulated the Ezeimo and the Eshi of Nkwere while promising of his desire to cooperate towards building a greater institution.
