…some Imolites disagree,call for cooperation with NDLEA
The Imo State House of Assembly is set to enact a law prohibiting the sale and consumption of Cannabis and other related Hard drugs in the State.
According to a Press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Ekwezuo Marcel, the Speaker declares the smoking of Indian Hemp or consumption of other hard drugs as having various toxic effect on the brain and body of citizenries.
The new law when enacted according to the Statement would protect the youthful population from certain mental illheath and become productive, aside jettisoning other heinuous crime against humanity and the state.
” the law was even more necessary because cannabis and other illicit hard drugs consumption leads to impairment and illness while their chronic and heavy use increases the possibility that these side effects take a significant toll on health of the Imo state citizenry”.said the Speaker
Rt.Hon Ihim commende His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha for “setting up a task force committee to combat the menace of Sale, Consumption and use of marijuana and other illicit hard drugs in Imo state”
Moreso,the Okigwe born Legislator called on Imolites to continuously support the Rescue Mission Administration in the state for the progress and advancement of the state.
However, some opinion analyst spoke to by Imostateonline.com reporters were of the view that the present effort may be a better deterent as there as existing legislations on sale and consumption of hard drugs with federal Agency saddled with the responsibility of its control and regulation. They called on the State government to liasse with the Head of of the National Antinarcotics –National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency-in Imo State for assistance rather duplicating the role.
