In her bid to alleviate the housing challenges faced by Staff of Federal University of Technology,Owerri(FUTO) the Alumni Association, has risen as it flagged off construction of a N220 million housing project.
The project as designed and expected to be completed in 12 months would provide 20-unit houses for staff.
President of the Association, Ndubuisi Chijioke, in his remark states that the building project would gulp N220 million and the accommodation expected to steady power supply.
The building as presented by the alumni Association would comprise of four -bedroom and three- bedroom semi detached houses of modern standard
”The FUTO Alumni Association has decided to build 20 units apartments for the university staff quarters. It is going to be energy efficient for 24 hours, with batteries and inverters. This will cost the association about N220 million”said the President.
He quipped that the decision to embark on the construction came from feedback the Association got from the authorities of the institution as areas requiring urgent intervention.
Moreso, the Association used the opportunity to reward two brilliant students with Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPA) of 4.0 in their 200-Level with scholarship worth N100,000.
According to him the students will enjoy the gesture as long as they maintained 4.0 CGPA.
Equally the association in her bid to improve employability status of graduate from the institution has selected 20 graduates to undergo Graduate Training Internship Programme.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Eze, commended the association for her gesture and will towards building a roboust institution that meets the global standard.
