The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)Imo state Chapter, tuesday in owerri during a press briefing alleged an invasion of Imo State by suspected Boko Haram fundamentalists who according to the Party's State Secretary, Sir George Eguh, were brought into Imo state in batches and are camped at the premises of Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies along Egbu road.
The Imo State PDP scribe stated that the Party has got very strong information to support their fears on the arrival of these Muslim fundamentalists as the rough looking young men numbering over 300 from the States of Kano,Katsina and Kaduna are guest of the state government. Continuing, Sir Eguh maintained that from reports available to the PDP, these rough looking youngmen came into the state 24 hours to the arrival of the State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha from his travel outside the state, and called for greater vigilance among security agencies towards forestalling their plans to cause mayhem in the state. Moreso, the PDP scribe said that the arrival of these men is "targeted at unleashing violence at known political opponents of the government".
Equally, the PDP insisted that these suspected hoodlums are camped in the same place Governor Okorocha and his agents have been training the illegal Imo Security Network and the Imo civil Guards who presently patrol the streets with prohibited firearms.
However, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Okorocha on Media, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, has denounced the alarm raised by the PDP as diversionary and lacking in substance.
