The National Secretary of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) an umbrella body of polytechnics in Nigeria, comrade Anderson Ezeibe has stated that ASUP has not called off the national wide strike they embarked upon.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri Imo State Capital recently, comrade Ezeibe states that ASUP will continue the strike until the federal government meets up with their demands.
Comrade Ezeibe who incidentally is a staff of Federal polytechnic Nekede-Owerri revealed that the Academic staff Union of polytechnic (ASUP) embarked on strike to press on the federal government to pay backlog of Unpaid staff salaries in most of the polytechnic across the nation.
Comrade Ezeibe posited that there is total infrastructural decay in most of the polytechnics in Nigeria coupled with lack of equipment and conducive learning environment.
According to comrade Ezeibe, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) will continue with the strike until the Federal Government is able to address all the grey areas mentioned above.
Comrade Ezeibe went further to pour encomiums on graduates of polytechnics whom he said has continued to prove the mettle, regardless of poor infrastructures and environment. He used his press chat with journalists to call on the federal government to endeavour to pay listening ear to ASUP, so as to help move the country to the next level.
