The Minister of Science and technology,Dr Ogbonnaya Onu is to storm Imo State capital on April 3,2018 to inaugurate the Assumpta Science Centre in Ofekata-Orodo,Mbaitolu local Government Area(LGA)
The Minister revealed this during a recent visit to the centre to assess the level of work and readiness of the centre for the inauguration.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of readiness, saying that he was looking forward its official inauguration.
The minister who had on February, undertaken an inspection visit of the centre highlighted some of its benefits in nation’s building.He emphasized that the Assumpta Science centre is a Federal Government project in partnership with the Vatic to serve as an informal training centre for young scientists across Africa.
Inaddition, Onu maintained that the centre would push for practical aspect of science study in Nigeria and other African countries as an area of specialisation.
According to Onu, the institution’s admission policy is never limited to Nigerians but would take students from other parts of the world that will be taught Chemistry with complementary subjects such as Biology, Physics and Mathematics.
He promised that the Science centre would be replicated in the six geo-political zones of the country and would go a long way to aid national development through application of science and technology.
You may recall that the minister, in 2017, visited the Vatican where he held discussions with His Holiness, Pope Francis and other Vatican authorities to accelerate the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the effective take off of the centre.
